This is obviously not Paradise Lost or The Iliad, it is just a police procedural but I love this series so much and they keep getting better and better. We see the interactions of the team, how they do and don’t work together. It’s an in depth study into how the police follow through on a murder investigation. I did get a kick out of his being a complete grammar nerd. When Smith does appear on the scenes, half way through the book, he’s retired and helping the family of the accused. Characters bring up Smith, but it’s certainly not necessary to have read that series.
